Description: An otherworldly offering from Ureshino in Saga Prefecture. Kinmokusei is the Japanese word for Osmanthus and this heirloom varietal organic black tea is grown among rows of Osmanthus flowers absorbing their perfumed aroma. In the fall, the flowers of the Kinmokusei trees are handpicked, dried and added the black tea - imbuing the tea with a heady floral aroma. A limited seasonal tea that holds a special place in our heart. This version uses flowers from the variety of Osmanthus tree bearing golden orange flowers.
What is so special about this tea? This is a tea that is singular in that really only made by this producer (as far as we have found). The output of the tea is incredibly small owing to the fact that there are only a few Kinmokusei trees on the property. The work of gathering the leaves is painstaking: The family all chip in scaling ladders and delicately picking each flower. After, the flowers are dried and the added to the black tea. After a period of resting the tea is released. We just love the captivating aroma and delicatedly sweetness of Kinmokusei Gold. A treasure indeed.
Recommended for: A delicate, floral black tea perfect for a morning or afternoon cup.
