About Kirishima 100 Sencha | 霧島煎茶

Description: A rich and luxurious Sencha from the famed Kirishima district of Kagoshima. This tea was selected for its intense color and unusually rich profile - especially for Sencha. This is pinnacle grade Kagoshima tea from an award winning producer and reflects the ultimate in what tea blending can achieve.

What is so special about this tea? Kagoshima will soon overtake Shizuoka as the largest producer of tea in Japan by prefectural output. The majority of this tea comes from the Chiran area - slightly south of Kirishima. Kirishima is lesser-known - especially outside of Japan. Known for producing high-grade Sencha and Kabuse, Kirishima is a spot you should definitely know about. We love what this tea maker is doing - coaxing out incredible flavors while still offering a wonderful value. This sets up Sumire as a perfect daily drinker for those of you who love deep green, fragranced, aromatic teas.

Recommended for: A rich, decadent Sencha

Too many fines

This one was kind of unpleasant for me because of how crushed up the leaves were. I’ve ordered several green teas from kettl and while there’s usually some fines/crushed leaves, I’m generally ok with it. However, this one was a bit excessive and resulted in a cloudy cup that I did not enjoy. Bummer.

I ordered five different teas from Kettle. This one was by far my favorite. I loved taste and fragrance. Although I like teas from the more well known regions, this tea from Kyushu is perfect---to my my palate.

How green is my tea.

I’ve been drinking green tea each morning since 2004. I’ve been getting the Japanese
Vegetal varieties from various sources during this years. Happily I found Kettl as my current source. They have a good selection and give me good advice in making new choices. The tea is fresh and arrives in the mail rapidly.
Thanks to Kettl I’m a “happy “ green tea drinker! No worries about being disappointed.

Long time tea drinker

For many years I’ve purchased tea in 100 g bags from Japan, either online or in person (Japanese wife). I make a couple of pots a day. I bought Kirishima, one of Kettl’s fukamushichas, in the 200g bag. I was really surprised at just how good it was. Fresh (it was shincha), great smell out of the bag and just the right amount of astringency. And the price was good - similar to the cost of a 100g bag from Japan, but without the $1200 plane ticket. I’m sold. These guys know tea.
