We are excited to share our newest matcha from the same garden as this years #1 Asahi crafted by legend Kiyoharu Tsuji. This Hinpyoukai Asahi, or competition asahi, is grown in the same garden as the Tencha that was submitted and won the 2022 Norinsuisan Daijinshou #1 prize. It is unbelievably rich with a decadent baking cocoa aroma and lasting umami that sings on the palate. We are house milling this Tencha in small batches and releasing it over the course of the next few weeks. Please note this is preorder will secure the Matcha for you, but it may not ship for 1 -2 weeks.
An explanation on the "Grand Prize Garden": This tea comes from the same garden as the Asahi that was selected as the #1 Tencha in Japan for 2022. The maximum amount that can be submitted is 4kg - meaning the official #1 Tencha on the market comes from only the selected 4kg that was examined and awarded. Tsuji san's competition garden, from which the #1 Tencha and the Tencha we are selling comes from, produces close to 10kg in total - meaning what you are buying is from the 6kg that were not examined. Rest assured, the care in both cultivation and processing is the same as the 4kg that won. It also means we can offer it to you at a lower price than we would be able to if it was indeed from the examined 4kg.

We purchase tea from our producers weekly and pack into oxygen free packaging at our Fukuoka office. Teas are then air shipped guaranteeing intense aromatics, rich flavor and a higher density of nutrients.
