This year We had the honor of selecting tea at auction. Generally this type of transaction is only permitted for Japanese tea professionals such as wholesalers, producers and a select few retailers. We were lucky enough to have a representative bid on our behalf. Bidding is much more than raising a hand to bid, it is the thoughtful selection of several lots that best exemplify the seasons crop (from among many).

His keen understanding of our commitment to excellence meant he went for the best. And he got it.

We are honored to be able to share a small amount of competition-grade Gyokuro from the Burgundy of Gyokuro: Hoshinomura, Yame.

This 100% Kirari 31 cultivar Gyokuro was manufactured to be one of the top-level teas to compete at Japan's National Tea Fair.

Grown in Hoshinomura in Yame, Fukuoka prefecture only 4kg were produced.

The combination of meticulous garden management, harvesting and perfection level production leads to a tea that is beyond reproach - an unbelievably unctuous mouthfeel with umami and sweetness that will leave you without words.

This is a rare chance to try one of the true wonders of Japan.
