Yoshiaki Hiruma Limited Edition Kiwami Box Set

This box set was in the October 2025 installment of our Kiwami Collection—a quarterly subscription featuring the rarest and most exceptional teas being produced in Japan today. We are making a very small number of these boxes, containing three stunning teas, available for those who are curious about the frontier of Japanese tea processing and experiencing the exceptional output from one of the most innovative producers in the country.

Yoshiaki Hiruma is a vanguard tea producer based in the city of Sayama, located within Saitama Prefecture. In addition to cultivating exceptional teas in his garden, his processing is second to none and includes methodologies and equipment that Hiruma-san designed and built himself, including an ultraviolet light setup for controlled oxidation. We have long celebrated Hiruma-san’s teas, and after a brief hiatus from the Kettl menu are delighted to steward them again in 2025. Alongside the Yumewakaba Wakoucha, Micro-oxidized Kamairicha, and Hokumei Sencha catalog offerings, we sourced three incredibly small lot competition productions for our Kiwami Collection, featured in this set.

This set includes three teas—Big Bitten Musashikaori Wakoucha, Bug Bitten Musashikaori Roasted Oolong, and Hand Rolled Hinpyokai Sencha. The two oxidized teas are stunning in their own right, but are brought to new levels of fidelity by leafhoppers—small insects that sporadically visit tea fields, imparting an intense sweetness in the leaves. These teas can not be planned or recreated and are the result of a synergy between craft and nature. The hand rolled sencha is among the most special teas we have offered, having placed 1st overall in the 2024 national Hinpyokai tea fair. Hand rolled teas are incredibly rare, and this example showcases the dimension that can be present when no expense is spared in preparation. It is a great honor to partner with Yoshiaki Hiruma to bring his teas to the Kettl community. Only 10 boxes of these incredible teas remain, and they will never be offered again, making them a snapshot of peerless excellence in real time.
