We are excited to announce the fourth iteration of our Kettl Studio Chef series, featuring Yoshiyuki Shimizu, a multidisciplinary artist based in the mountain-top town of Dosenbo, just outside of Kyoto, Japan. Shimizu-san is a close friend, mentor, and creative partner of Zach and Minami, and his practice touches nearly every dimension of Kettl. We use his and showcase his stunning ceramics, serve and sell his hand-roasted houjicha, and are now excited to host him for a dinner featuring his heartfelt cuisine to kick off a weekend celebrating our partnership.

This event will run for one night only on Friday, September 12th, at 6:00 pm at our private Kettl Studio space in Greenpoint.

Place settings for twelve will be set for an evening of Japanese home-style cooking—the kind of meal you might share in a family kitchen in rural Japan. The menu will feature farm-fresh vegetables and Shimizu-san’s own homemade miso, flown directly from Japan. Each course will be served on handmade ceramics crafted by Shimizu-san himself, turning the meal into a living gallery.

After dinner, Shimizu-san will roast houjicha in the room—filling the air with its intoxicating fragrance — and brew it for guests. The tea will be paired with special sweets from Phoebe Ogawa of OGAWAGASHI.
