Class | The Foundational Flavors of Japanese Tea: Umami, Sweetness, Biterness

Variant

The Foundational Flavors of Japanese Tea is a structured and dynamic tasting experience designed to help guests develop reference points, vocabulary, and sensory understanding. During the session, we will taste three of our highest-grade matcha, sourced from different production regions in Japan, each paired with select culinary ingredients that share and highlight foundational elements of flavor. By tasting matcha alongside these ingredients, guests learn to identify and articulate flavor more clearly, gaining a deeper appreciation for one of Japan's most distinct tea styles. In addition to a focus on flavor and vocabulary, guests will learn about the regional approaches to production that lead to these unique profiles. This workshop is held in the private tasting room at our Kettl Matcha Sen Mon Ten space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn—the perfect venue for slow tasting, comparison, and discussion.

The class is 90 minutes long and features a guided tasting.

This session will feature food products that contain allergens such as tree nuts, soy, sesame, and shellfish with no substitutions made.

This class will be held at Kettl Matcha Sen Mont Ten 38 Norman ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
