Shizu 7132 Sencha

Variant

Jiro Katahira, one of our longest term partners, is a young producer in Shizuoka who oversees one of the most extensive tea gardens in all of Japan, with over 22 unique cultivars—all of which are harvested and processed separately. We have purchased a range of his offerings as special releases over the years, with several mainstays that are featured on the menu throughout the season. Shizu 7132 is known for its pronounced Cherry Blossom-like aroma, due to a high concentration of coumarin. Like all of Katahira-san’s teas, this tea was produced with no expense spared and an attention to detail bordering on the obsessive. We are grateful to present another gem from one of the most passionate tea producers working in Japan today.

Jiro Katahira

Jiro Katahira is one of the most revered producers working in Shizuoka today, having developed a reputation for meticulous farm maintenance and processing. His single cultivar sencha and kabuse offerings are some of the most in-demand in our catalog, only appearing for a brief moment in the early season. Katahira-san has been experimenting with matcha production recently as well, and the early results are as expected—terroir-driven and refined. It's a true pleasure to steward these teas, which stand alone in our curation as single representations of high mountain Shizuoka teas.
