Kei Ishikawa

Ceramic artist Kei Ishikawa is based in Mashiko, Tochigi, where he creates pottery that honors the rich tradition of Mashiko ware while embracing a free and contemporary sensibility.
Influenced by his experience as a tea practitioner and a lifelong exposure to folk crafts from around the world, Ishikawa’s work reflects a unique balance of strength and refinement. Through his signature inlay technique, he carves spontaneous patterns into the clay, fills them with white slip, and carefully reveals layered surfaces that make each piece entirely one of a kind.
His works carry the textures of Mashiko’s earth, fire, and natural landscape. Rustic yet sophisticated, the vessels possess a quiet presence that grows more familiar and beautiful with daily use.
Created with the belief that pottery is meant to be used, Ishikawa’s pieces naturally complement meals and tea gatherings while bringing warmth and depth to everyday life.
