Maruhachi Seichajō

Maruhachi Seichajo is one of Japan’s most respected hōjicha and bōcha tea producers, best known for its signature “Kenjo Kaga Boucha,” a roasted stem tea closely associated with the tea culture of Kanazawa and the wider Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture.

Founded in 1863 during the late Edo period, the company has remained family operated for six generations. Based in Kaga City, Maruhachi Seichajo developed its reputation through a highly refined approach to roasting tea stems (茎茶 / kukicha), particularly stems from the first spring harvest. Unlike many lower-grade hōjicha made from mature leaves, their teas focus on delicacy, aroma, and sweetness rather than heavy roast character.

An unwavering commitment to quality.
