Join Kettl founder Zach Mangan and Té Company founder Elena Liao for an afternoon of tea tasting and conversation exploring the work of sourcing tea, building producer relationships, and operating specialty tea businesses.
Guests will be guided through a comparative tasting of six teas selected by Kettl and Té Company, offering a unique opportunity to explore the tea traditions of Japan and Taiwan side by side. The tasting will include a Taiwanese green tea alongside a Japanese green tea, a Taiwanese oolong alongside a Japanese oolong, and a signature tea selected by each company. Through these pairings, participants will gain insight into differences in terroir, processing methods, production styles, and flavor profiles across both tea-producing regions.
Throughout the tasting, Zach and Elena will discuss their approaches to sourcing tea in Japan and Taiwan, working directly with producers, developing long-term producer relationships, and building businesses rooted in transparency, and craftsmanship. The conversation will also touch on the evolution of tea culture in New York City and the challenges and rewards of operating specialty tea companies.
